Liturgical

Liturgical

Our Dance program is constructed in levels.  Most genres follow this system:

  • Level 1: Creative Movement (ages 3 – 4)
  • Level 2: Ballet/Jazz I (ages 4-6)
  • Level 3: Ballet/Jazz II (ages 5-6)
  • Level 4 – 8: Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary, Tap, Clogging (most begin at age 7, students are placed by teachers by age and skill level)

In Liturgical, students may begin in Liturgical I at age 7, and then they will progress through Levels II, III, & IV by teacher placement.

Psalm 149:3 declares, “Let them praise His name in the dance…” God delights in our gifts of praise as we use our bodies as instruments for His purposes. In this class, students will learn the background of liturgical dance, God’s purpose for it, the different types of liturgical dance, and the power it has in the spiritual realm. Students will also learn how to adapt to different spaces and audiences, and develop discernment in creating Christ-honoring choreography and costumes. Liturgical uses different types of dance (modern, ballet, contemporary, jazz, mime, sign language, etc.) as well as props (fabric, flags, streamers, etc.) to communicate our praise. Different styles and props will be explored throughout the year.
